Kurt Planitzer emerged as a master diver in the local history of Mainz-Kastel. He took care of, inter alia, that the washing bridge ("Washing Brick Elche") on the banks of the Rhine, at the Kasteler women dirty laundry washed, remained operational. He was also involved in rebuilding the bridge over the Rhine between Mainz and Mainz-Kastel and increased repairs to ship hulls. One of his more than 27-pound diving shoes are kept in the "Museum Castellum".
